Managing assistants

The Assistants page is where you create assistants, keep track of the ones you have, and open the editor. This page covers the list itself and the editor header; each editor tab has its own page.

The Assistants page showing a grid of assistant cards, each with channel icons, conversation and message counts, and edit, duplicate and delete buttons

The assistant list

Open Assistants in the sidebar. Each assistant is a card. Clicking anywhere on a card opens its editor.

What a card shows

Element Meaning
Name The assistant's name. The circle beside it shows its first letter.
Off badge The assistant is disabled — visitors cannot use it. Enabled assistants show no badge.
Personal Assistant badge This is a personal-assistant assistant. It replaces the channel icons.
Channel icons Globe = web, handset = phone, speech bubble = SMS, envelope = email. An icon appears only for a channel that is turned on. Hover an icon for its name.
Domain The domain saved on the assistant, if you set one.
Conversations Total conversations this assistant has handled.
Messages Total messages exchanged.
Created How long ago the assistant was created.

The three buttons at the bottom right of a card are Edit, Duplicate and Delete.

Search, sort and pagination

The toolbar above the grid filters and orders the list:

  • Search by name or domain… matches the assistant name and the domain, case-insensitively.
  • The sort menu orders by Name, Created, Conversations or Messages.
  • The arrow button beside it flips between Sort ascending and Sort descending.
  • The count on the right shows how many assistants match the current search.

When more than 10 assistants match, a pagination row appears under the grid. Use the per-page menu to show 10, 25 or 50 cards per page.

If a search matches nothing, the list is replaced by a message with a Clear search button.

Duplicating an assistant

Duplicate copies every setting on the assistant into a new one and opens it in the editor. The copy is named <original name> (Copy) and it is created disabled, so nothing goes live before you are ready. If the original had a domain, the copy gets a placeholder domain instead of the real one — set the correct domain and enable the copy before you deploy it.

A duplicate counts against your assistant limit, so it fails if you are already at the limit.

Deleting an assistant

Delete opens a confirmation dialog: Delete "<name>" and all conversation history? This cannot be undone. Confirming removes the assistant along with its conversation history. There is no undo and no restore.

Warning

If the assistant is embedded on a live page, delete it only after you have removed the embed snippet — the widget stops working the moment the assistant is gone.

Assistant limits

The header shows a usage pill — for example 1 / 1 assistants — whenever your account has a limit.

Account Assistants
Free 1
Paid 20

"Paid" means the account has purchased credits at some point; it does not expire when the balance runs down. See Billing and credits.

Once you are at the limit, Create Assistant is disabled and a warning strip appears above the list: You've reached your limit of N assistants. On a free account it adds Add credits to unlock up to 20, with a Buy credits button that takes you to Billing.

Creating an assistant

Click Create Assistant. On a brand-new account the page instead shows a short onboarding checklist with a Create Your First Assistant button — both open the same dialog.

Field Notes
Name Required. Shown in the dashboard, not to visitors.
Domain Required when the web channel is on. Enter the host only — Without http://, e.g. example.com. It is also saved as the assistant's first allowed domain, which is what the widget checks at runtime.
Welcome message Optional. The first thing the assistant says in chat. Leave it blank for the default.
Instructions Optional. The assistant's persona, tone and scope. Leave it blank for a friendly default.
Enabled On by default. Turn it off to create the assistant without letting visitors use it yet.

Click Create to save and go straight to the editor, or Cancel to discard. Creation is blocked with an inline message if the name is empty, if the web channel is on and the domain is empty, or if no channel is selected.

AI Generate

The AI Generate button beside Instructions drafts a short set of instructions from the name and domain you have typed, then drops the text into the box. It stays disabled until you have entered a name or a domain. The result is a starting point — edit it before you save, and rewrite it in full any time from the General settings tab.

Template and Channels

When phone, SMS and email channels are turned on for your deployment, the dialog also shows a Template selector (Support or Phone Agent) and a Channels group with checkboxes for Web Widget, Phone Inbound, Phone Outbound, SMS and Email. Picking a template sets a matching default set of channels, which you can then adjust. Choosing Support turns on the web widget; choosing Phone Agent turns on inbound and outbound phone instead.

If you do not see these controls, every new assistant is created as a web assistant. You can change channels later in the editor.

Turning an assistant on and off

An assistant's on/off state is a single switch you can flip at any time:

  • In the create dialog, with the Enabled toggle.
  • In the editor, on the General tab, under Assistant Status — labelled Active or Disabled.

A disabled assistant shows the Off badge on its card and in the editor header, and visitors cannot use it.

The editor

Opening an assistant takes you to its editor. The header stays pinned as you scroll and holds:

  • A breadcrumb — Assistants / Edit — with the assistant's name below it. Click Assistants to go back to the list.
  • A Live or Off badge reflecting the enabled state.
  • An Unsaved changes marker with an amber dot, shown whenever you have edits that are not saved.
  • Preview, which opens the assistant in a new tab. Preview always loads the last saved version, so save first if you want to try a change you just made.
  • Save, which is disabled until something changes. ⌘S on macOS or Ctrl+S on Windows and Linux saves as well.

If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, the browser asks you to confirm.

Some settings are checked by the server when you save. If a setting is not available on your account, the save still succeeds and you get a notice explaining what was adjusted, so it is worth reading the message rather than dismissing it.

Editor tabs

Tabs always appear in this order:

Tab What it covers
General Name, domain, on/off state, instructions, AI model, chat behaviour, language, terms and rate limit. See General settings.
Appearance Display mode, position, colors, typography, branding and custom CSS. See Appearance.
Principal Who the personal assistant works for, their verification status, and how it contacts them. Only shown for personal-assistant assistants.
Voice Voice input, text-to-speech voice and language, and voice accessibility. See Voice.
Channels Connected accounts and the per-channel switches for calling, SMS and email, plus human handoff. See Human handoff.
Intelligence Knowledge base documents, page intelligence, appointment scheduling and actions. See Knowledge and capabilities.
Testing Behavioural checks Hiroi writes and runs against this assistant. Only shown where assistant testing is enabled for your deployment.
Deploy Authentication mode, the embed snippet and the server secret. See Deploying your assistant.
Phone Call logs with transcripts, and a test call. Only shown when calling is enabled on the assistant.

Three tabs are conditional: Principal appears only on personal-assistant assistants, Testing only where the feature is enabled for your deployment, and Phone only once inbound or outbound calling is turned on for that assistant. Turning calling on and saving makes the Phone tab appear.
